Playing Catch Up with 20 Matches in One Day

Twenty-two matches were scheduled for Thursday, the first dry day since the LG&T Challenger main draw started, and 20 were completed. A few players had to double up on matches to try to keep the 9 day tournament on schedule for the start of Championship Weekend Friday.

To start the day our one seed Jordan Thompson (No. 98) defeated James Ward (No. 331) 7-5, 6-2. Later on Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera (No. 346) defeated Saketh Myneni (No. 339) 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Thompson had to play Barrios Vera later in the day where he won 6-1, 6-3.

There were also some top upsets throughout the day. Qualifier Mikael Torpegaard (No. 794) defeated our four seed, and 2013 LG&T Challenger runner up, Bradley Klahn (No. 122) in a grinding match 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3). Also our three seed Bjorn Fratangelo (No. 162) fell to Laurynas Grigelis (No. 270) 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Two of our wild cards were also knocked out today as Alex Rybakov (No. 501) lost to Edan Leshem (No. 406) 6-4, 6-3. Lucas Catarina (No. 358) defeated our other wild card William Blumberg (No. 680) 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Our last remaining wild card Alafia Ayeni (No. 1280) won his match against Igor Sijsling (No. 356) 6-3, 0-0 as Igor Retired.
