Off and on rain thwarted day one of the 2018 main draw, with only one match completed before play was officially suspended around 6:00 P.M.
The day started with wrapping up the last of the qualifiers. The qualify winners were Australian Andrew Harris (No. 363), American Jared Hiltzik (No. 437), Dane Mikael Torpegaard (No. 794), and American Alexander Ritschard (No. 495). They will now be entered into the main bracket for the rest of the tournament.
The only main draw match that finished today was between 2 Americans: Marcos Giron (No. 477) and wild card Martin Redlicki (No. 773). Both men played at University of Los Angeles but at different times. Giron defeated Redlicki 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 as play was on and off throughout the match. Giron will play the winner of the match between Jay Clarke (No. 225) and Yunseong Chung (No. 335), who’s match was suspended due to the rain.
Americans Vasil Kirkov and Alexander Ritschard knocked out Americans Joshua Druger and Nathan Romig in the doubles qualifier bracket. Chileans Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera and Jorge Montero defeated Australians Thomas Fancutt and Aleksandar Vukic. Kirkov and Ritschard will face off against Barrios Vera and Montego for the doubles qualifier spot tomorrow.
